1 As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
A mark of true conversion is that of a holy longing for God. Everything he does for God is not flowing from a list of do’s and don’ts but coming from a heart that is compelled by God’s transcendent beauty and majesty. He is ever satisfied by God but still longing for more of God. The Christian longs for the coming of his Savior and Lord. I remember the motto of John Piper, “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him”, but I would also like to say it a bit differently, “we are (should be) most satisfied in God when God is most glorified”. That should be our ultimate quest.
