About Us

Distinctives

Proper handling of the word of God is necessary for us to glorify God and enjoy him forever. Reformed Exegetes Society is a calvinistic parachurch organization dedicated to provide just that. Articles, resources, materials, lessons on how to properly divide, exegete and apply God’s word and in so doing find glories in every pages of scriptures.

Our Name

We call ourselves reformed not in the sense that we are purely covenantal or belonging to a Presbyterian or Reformed Baptist denomination. Though we may have shared beliefs with them, we’re using the term ‘reformed’ quite loosely.

Our Core Beliefs

  • We believe in the inerrancy and infallibility of the original writings of the Holy Scriptures, fully inspired by God and the only infallible rule to be use by all believers.
  • We believe the 66 canonical books of Scriptures to be the special revelation of God’s will toward men.
  • We believe that there is only one true God and he subsist in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
  • We believe in the deity and humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ and that he is the savior of sinners. For it is impossible for Jesus to save us if he is not truly God and truly man.
  • We believe that Jesus Christ was crucified, buried and in three days He rose again. Now He is sitting at the right hand of the Father interceding for his people.
  • We believe that the only way to salvation is by the grace of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, and repentance of sin.

We adhere to the early churches’ creeds; the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Creed of Chalcedon. We affirm the Five Solas of the Reformation and strongly teach and embrace the Doctrines of Grace.

We don’t hold to a singular view of eschatology, church government, mode of baptism, and principles in church worship.

Hermeneutics

We believe in the reformation way of interpreting the scriptures, namely the historical-grammatical method and the analogy of faith. We believe that the grammar and literary context of any passage takes precedence over any historical materials, but at the same time does not deny the importance of historical background. We also believe that when new testament authors quote or interpret any old testament passages, their interpretation must take priority over our exegesis of the text.

Discourse and Genre Analysis

We believe that to understand any literary genre, one must come to terms with the author’s meaning and flow of thought. We do this by employing discourse analysis, taking into consideration the grammar, logic, and genre of the text. We use the following tools for the study:

  • Bible in the original language
  • Greek and Hebrew lexicon, parsing, textual criticism commentaries
  • One literal/formal english translation and one dynamic equivalence/functional english translation of the bible
  • Arcing, Phrasing, and bracketing
  • Bible surveys, commentaries and study bibles
